Project description
The installation has been carried out with a global scope, from the civil engineering works to the processing equipment (equipment for the crystallisation, drying, filtration and grinding of the product), including the cleanrooms and the general and critical utilities (purified water, clean steam, CIP, SIP, automation …). The project encompasses all phases from conceptual engineering to commissioning and validation of the new unit.
Ercros is an industrial group with a hundred-year tradition diversified into four areas of activity: Basic Chemicals and Plastics, which make up the Chlorine Related Businesses group, and the Intermediate Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals divisions. It is a leading company in the main markets in which it operates and exports almost half of its sales to more than 128 countries, mainly in the EU.
The activity of the Pharmaceuticals division focuses on the production of raw materials and intermediate pharmaceutical products, within the family of antibiotics, hypocholesterolemiants, and anti-ulcer and anti-fungal products.The pharmaceutical business represents 5% of total group sales. Exports account for 86% of sales, the main destinations being Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Mexico and Japan.
The division also specialises in the customised production of active and intermediate ingredients for customers, known as contract production, and has more than fifty years of experience in this field. It also has its own R&D centre located at the plant in Aranjuez (Madrid).
The principal active ingredients produced in this centre are: fusidic acid (2nd largest producer worldwide), amlodipine besylate, azithromycin, clarithromycin, famotidine, fosfomycin (calcium, sodium and trometamol; 3rd largest producer worldwide and 2nd largest European producer), clarithromycin, erythromycins.
